WAXING

  • Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your wax appointment:

    • Grow out your hair! Make sure that you have at least a ¼ inch of hair regrowth for your wax appointment.

    • Shower beforehand, to ensure a clean canvas for the wax.

    • Gently exfoliate your skin using side-to-side and up-and-down motions. This will help remove any skin cell build-up and will help to lift hairs underneath the skin’s surface— allowing a more seamless and easy release of hairs during the wax.

    • Get comfy! Put on your favorite sweatsuit set or your go-to comfort clothes. Wear something loose-fitting that you can easily take on/off before and after the service.

    • Stay hydrated! Make sure to properly hydrate before your wax appointment. Drink water! Stay away from caffeine and alcohol before your wax appointment, as they can amplify your pain receptors or increase the chance of pinpoint bleeding.

  • At Melt Parlor, we prioritize your comfort. Our team is highly trained in waxing techniques that help to reduce pain as much as possible. It’s also important to note that waxing discomfort varies from person to person. You will experience the most discomfort during your very first wax appointment, since we are removing about 85% of your hair growth while it’s in it’s active growth stage. After the first wax, the rest will be a breeze! Stay consistent, follow the aftercare and you will be golden.

Here are some tips for reducing pain and discomfort during your wax service:

    • Take Ibuprophen about 30-45 minutes before your appointment.

    • Refrain from drinking caffeine before your wax service— caffeine can amplify your pain receptors and increase sensitivity.

    • Exfoliate beforehand! Proper exfoliation will help remove any skin cell build-up and will help lift hairs from underneath the surface, providing a smoother release of hairs during the wax.

  • You should have at least ¼ of an inch of hair growth for your wax service. Typically, this is about 2-3 weeks of regrowth. This length ensures that the wax can effectively grip onto the hair, leading to a more thorough removal and smoother results.

If your hair is too short, we may not be able to perform the service.

  • Absolutely! We just ask that you put a fresh tampon or menstrual cup in, right before your service— and you’ll be good to go!

  • It’s generally considered completely safe for pregnant women to get waxed during pregnancy. With those hormones kicking in, your hair might be growing faster than ever. Plus, we totally understand that reaching certain spots during your pregnancy can be a challenge. We’ve got you covered!

*If you have any questions or concerns, please consult your physician prior to scheduling.

  • We recommend to schedule your wax appointments about 4-5 weeks apart. Everyone’s hair grows at different speeds, so it can vary!

For Sugar Brazilians, we recommend 3-4 weeks between appointments.

  • We recommend to wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing— like a dress, skirt, sweatpants, or relaxed-fitting jeans/pants. Avoid wearing anything tight or restricting, as it may cause excess friction, irritation, or discomfort after a fresh wax.

For Brazilians/Bikini Waxing, cotton underwear is key! Cotton will allow your skin to breathe after the wax, which will reduce irritation.

TANNING

  • We recommend that all waxing, shaving, and nail services be completed prior to your tan. It’s important to exfoliate your skin well and avoid having any lotions, oils, deodorants, perfumes, or makeup on when you arrive for your appointment. These can create a barrier on your skin that will prevent the tanning solution from being applied properly. Remember that you cannot shower, get wet, sweat or apply any lotions for 8 hours after your appointment. Please bring loose fitting/dark colored clothing to wear out of the salon as tight clothing can lead to uneven results.

  • We recommend to wear dark colored, loose-fitting clothing to your appointment. Do not wear anything that is tight or restricting! Clothing that is too tight may rub the solution off your skin or cause patchiness.

Avoid wearing fabrics such as denim, leather, satin, or silk— if stained, these fabrics tend to hold onto the solution more and can be harder to get stains out of!

Make sure to check the weather forecast! If there is a chance of rain, please come prepared with clothing that will fully cover and protect your skin from head-to-toe. (I.E. umbrella, rain jacket, closed-toed shoes, etc.)

  • What you wear during your spray tan appointment is 100% up to you and your comfort level.

If you do not want tan lines, we recommend that you tan fully nude.

If you are not comfortable with being nude, you can always bring a bathing suit or underwear to keep on during the service! Anything that you keep on will leave tan lines.

Keep in mind— if you prefer to wear a bathing suit or underwear during the service, the fabric of those items will inevitably come into contact with the spray tan solution. The tan solution should wash out of most fabrics without a problem, but we cannot guarantee that it will wash out of all fabrics. Wearing a darker-fabric will reduce the chances of noticeable stains.

  • Your spray tan will last anywhere from 5-7 days— depending on your skin type, physical activity, and aftercare/maintenance.

Here are a few tips to help make your spray tan last longer:

    • Stay hydrated! Hydrated Skin = Healthy Skin.

    • Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!

    • Avoid using products that contain a high alcohol content or contain mineral oil. These ingredients can strip the solution from your skin and cause the tan to fade faster.

    • After you get your spray tan, do NOT exfoliate! Any type of exfoliation could remove the solution from the skin or cause patchiness.

    • If you need to shave, be GENTLE! If you have to shave while you have a spray tan, make sure you use very light pressure. This will help guide the razor to only removing the hair, and not the skin cells on the top layer of your skin (that contain the spray tan solution).

  • At Melt Parlor, we offer Custom Airbrush Spray Tans. This means, we do not use the same solution on everyone.

Our tanning technician will do a consultation with you at the beginning of your appointment to better understand the exact look and outcome that you desire. During this time, they will assess your skin type, skin tones, and undertones— which will help them create the perfect customized spray tan formula made just for you!

  • After your spray tan appointment, you must wait a full 8-hours for your spray tan to develop. During this 8-hour processing time, it is very important that you keep your skin completely dry. Yes, this includes sweating!

If you would like to work out, please wait until after the 8-hour processing time has passed and you have rinsed the solution off of your skin.

  • The cosmetic bronzer you will have on for 8 hours has a slight chance of rubbing off onto fabrics, but it washes out of most fabrics similar to cotton. We cannot guarantee that it will wash out so we recommend sleeping on an older pair of sheets for the first night just in case.

  • All other services should be done before your spray tan session. Manicures and pedicures could mess up your tan since hands, feet, and legs usually soak in hot water and are exfoliated during those services. Waxing could take your spray tan off in the areas you get waxed, even days after your tanning session. If you would like to book a hair/nail/wax appointment right before your tanning session that would be best.

  • Your technician will go over after care instructions during your first appointment and you will be given a print out to take home with you. Soon after your session, if something happens and you have a mess up, call the salon and we can advise you on the best course of action. Sometimes a mess up can be fixed by coming back into the salon quickly, but we recommend that you go home and relax after your session and let your tan develop fully.

  • Be advised that if any water or rain comes in contact with your tan within 8 hours after your appointment it will greatly affect the overall results. We highly recommend for you to bring loose and covering clothing and close toed footwear to wear out of your appointment. Most importantly please do not forget an umbrella!

  • The spray tan solution does not protect from sunburn, so if you are going to be in the sun, we recommend using sunscreen. We recommend only lotion sunscreen because the alcohol content in a spray or aerosol sunscreen can make your tan fade fast and splotchy. We offer sunscreen at the salon that works great.

  • We suggest that you don’t apply one while you still have your tan. Our technicians formulate the solution used on your skin in order to make your spray tan customizable to your skin tone. Self-tanners apply a certain shade of color that might not match well with the solution that was used. We do offer a tan extending moisturizer that will work great and prolong the life of your tan.

PMU

PERMANENT MAKEUP

  • This may be hard, but NO caffeine on the day of the service and no alcohol for 2 days prior to the service. Retinoid, Salicylic Acid and AHA treatments or products are to be avoided 2 weeks leading up to service and 4-6 weeks after.

  • No. Your sweat contains salt, which can push pigment out of the epidermis. It is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks to return to vigorous exercise.

  • Yes, a follow up is recommended 8-12 weeks after any PMU service. As the outermost layer of skin sheds, the color can look dull, patchy and lack luster without a follow up. After the initial follow-up a touch up or color boost will be needed. Semi permanent makeup is meant to fade out of the skin naturally with time.

  • We do not recommend drinking coffee before your service if you are sensitive to caffeine— it can make your eyes jumpy.

  • Once upon a time YES and eventually turn blue, red or green.

Special tools and ink have been created  in recent years specifically for cosmetic semi permanent makeup procedures to gradually fade out of the skin without leaving behind Christmas colors.

  • PMU typically lasts anywhere from 6 months to 3 years— depending on how oily an individual's skin is or how often they have skin rejuvenating treatments. If you have oily skin we will recommend the best treatment plan to ensure optimal lasting results.

LASHES

  • We recommend that you come in for a Lash Fill every 2-4 weeks.

Natural lash shedding is expected, we lose 2-6 lashes per day. After 4 weeks a Full Set is required.

  • If you have sensitive eyes, our lash technician can perform a patch test prior to the service to ensure that it is safe to move forward. We also offer clear glue, free of the common irritant Cyanoacrylate, which is specifically made for those with sensitive eyes.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please book a virtual or in-person consultation.

  • Lash services have come a long way. We use a special sealant serum to ensure the lash glue is cured prior to your departure. Lashes can get wet the same day but an extremely hot shower or sauna/steam room isn’t recommended.

  • With a full set you will be provided a complementary lash bath to use twice a day.

  • No, PLEASE do not wear contacts during lash services. The contact can dry out and fuse to the eye.

Wear your glasses to your appointment or, bring your contact case with you! You can remove your contacts during your service and put them back in once the service is finished.
